Bentonite - The clay with a Multiple Application

Bentonite is a highly versatile mineral. When processed carefully, it caters to a wide range of industries, from traditional usage areas such as metal casting, iron ore palletizing, civil engineering, drilling, pet litter to speciality application areas such as paper, detergents, cosmetics etc.

We offer Bentonite for following Applications and Industries

FOUNDRY BENTONITE: Bentonite is used as a bonding material in the preparation of moulding sand for the production of iron, steel and non-ferrous casting. The unique properties of bentonite yield green sand moulds with good flowability, compactability and thermal stability for the production of high quality castings.

Product Highlights

  • Premium Grade Natural bentonite
  • Imparts Green and dry strength
  • Develops good flowability with optimum tempering water
  • Easier to develop sharp, strong mould edges and corners
  • High thermal stability and low rejects
  • High cohesive strength, excellent rammability maintains mould strength in pressure casting

BENTONITE FOR IRON ORE PELLETIZATION: Bentonite is used as a binding agent in the production of iron ore pellets. Through this process, iron ore fines are converted into spherical pellets, suitable as feed material in blast furnaces for pig iron production, or in the production of direct reduction iron (DRI).

Product Highlights

  • Free flow fine powder, 80% finer than 200 mesh
  • Higher water update & retention(Water Plate)that develops actual bond between particles
  • Contains low silica, therefore no extra slag formation
  • Good Water absorption enables easy formation of pellets. Grannules grow fast as they roll
  • Binding strength maintained before and after drying of pellets
  • Pallet shape retained even on rough handling

BENTONITE FOR PESTICIDES:

SULPHOBENT: It is widely used in granule formulation of pesticides especially sulphur pellets.

Product Highlights

  • Granule formulation of Pesticides is one of the easiest and safest way of Pesticides application
  • During application, Granules are less subject to drift than in the case with dusting and spray
  • They can be applied even in condition of wind
  • Granular Formulation of Pesticides control harmful insects or weeds at the stage of the growth of crop
  • It releases active ingredients slowly over a longer period of time
  • During formulation it does not stick to the wall of the Granulator since it is highly absorbent

BENTONITE FOR CONSTRUCTION: Bentonite in civil engineering applications is traditionally used as a thixotropic, support and lubricant agent in diaphragm walls and foundations, in tunnelling, in horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and pipe jacking. Bentonite, due to its viscosity and plasticity, is also used in Portland cement and mortars.

Product Highlights

  • Horibent is a Natural Sodium Bentonite
  • Extensively used in stabilizing excavation
  • Fine particle size penetrates deep into cleavages and cracks to clog pores
  • Thixotropic properties retained even in highly saline soil

BENTONITE FOR DRILLING: Another conventional use of bentonite is as a mud constituent for oil- and water- well drilling. Its role is mainly to seal the borehole walls, to remove drill cuttings and to lubricate the cutting head. The special higher mud yield results in using less quantity of Bentonite for the same standard mud. This results in lesser requirement of Bentonite.

Product Highlights

  • Gives high barrel yield
  • 3% to 5% of Mineral develops 15 centipoise viscosity
  • Little loss of drilling fluids
  • Withstands formation pressure
  • Matching weighting agents
  • Retains thixotopic properties when met with brine and high temperature in deep drilling

BENTONITE FOR AGRICULTURE: As an animal feed supplement, as a pelletising aid in the production of the animal feed pellets, as well as a flowability aid for unconsolidated feed ingredients such as soy meal. It is also used as an ion exchanger for improvement and conditioning of the soil. When thermally treated, it can be used as a porous ceramic carrier for various herbicides and pesticides. The natural distance between the layers and high porosity make the Kutch Bentonite an ideal material for agricultural pesticide use.

BENTONITE FOR ANIMAL FEED: Here also because of good clumping properties, the Kutch Bentonite is ideal to make good extrusions with lesser quantity of Bentonite.

Product Highlights

  • FEEDOBENT is a highly colloidal bentonite, spreads evenly and speedily on food mass
  • Helps in absorption of nutrients and digestion
  • FEEDOBENT has been experimentally confirmed to: Increase milk yield in dairy animals, increase wool in sheep, increase bodyweight of chicken, and increase egg quality in layers
  • FEEDOBENT is safe and non-toxic
  • FEEDOBENT can supplement 5% of animal feed with increased nutritional benefit

BENTONITE FOR CAT LITTER: When used for cat litter, bentonite posses an advantage because of its ability to absorb refuse by forming clumps (which can be easily removed, leaving the remaining product intact for further use).

BENTONITE FOR PAPER: Bentonite is crucial to paper making, where it is used in pitch control (i.e. absorption of wood resins that tend to obstruct the machines), to improve the efficiency of the conversion of pulp into paper, and to improve the quality of the paper. Bentonite also offers useful de-inking properties for paper recycling. In addition, acid activated bentonite is used as the active component in the manufacture of carbonless copy paper.

BENTONITE FOR WATER PROOFING: The Kutch Bentonite has excellent filtration loss properties, which makes it ideal for all water proofing uses and in environment protection.
